UNEMPLOYMENT IN SPAIN HAS STOOD AT 3,111,684.

Spain and the European region is starting to show signs of progress with unemployment lowering to record numbers compared to previous years, even prior to the pandemic. Germany is also on their 10th month of consistently lowering the number of unemployed people.  

  • Unemployment has fallen by 11,394 people in February with a record 22% of permanent contracts. 
  • 316,841 Permanent contracts have been signed, the highest figure in the historical series. 
  • The signing of permanent contracts is 139.2% higher than in February 2021.
  • 94,311 contracts have been signed for works or services less than in the same month of the previous year.
  • In the last twelve months unemployment has been reduced by 897,105 people, the biggest drop in the historical series.
  • Unemployment falls in all sectors compared to February 2021.
  • Female unemployment falls by 464,132 women (-20.1%) compared to February 2021.
  • Among those under 25, unemployment has fallen by 38.5% year-on-year to a total of 225,480 people, the highest figure down in a month of February.

The number of unemployed men and women registered in the Public Employment Services Offices, at the end of the February, has decreased by 11,394 people (-0.36%) in relation with the previous month. It is the biggest drop in a month of February since the year 2015.

Registered unemployment stood at 3,111,684 people. Compared to February 2021, unemployment has decreased by 897,105 people (-22.38%). It is the largest year-on-year drop in the historical series. In terms seasonally adjusted, registered unemployment fell by 35,734 people.

The total number of contracts registered during the month of February was 1,444,057, of which 316,841 were employment contracts of a permanent nature.

In year-on-year terms, this represents an increase of 184,410 permanent contracts (139.25%) over the same month of the previous year.

Regarding the situation prior to the pandemic, the largest percentage increases in permanent contracts are found in the Agriculture and Construction sectors. By sectors, the percentage of indefinite contracts registered in February is especially relevant in Construction and Services.

The drop of 94,311 contracts for Labor or Service stands out compared to February 2021 (-19.5%).

In accumulated magnitudes, in January and February 2022. 555,513 contracts were made for an indefinite period. It represents an increase of 298,891 (116.47%) over the same period in 2021.
